Religion's grunge side gets a ruffle of glamour this Autumn Winter 09
Legendary London fashion label, Religion, flies into Autumn Winter 09 with a wonderfully macabre collection. Full of morosely intricate Victorian references and predatory touches, Religion fuses these into the collection alongside its signature tough-talking rocker style. This season prepare to unleash the inner femme fatale, with a full collection of bodycon and draped dresses, leopard print ripped skinny jeans and bustling jackets.
Bleak butterfly outlines, barren forests, traditional checks and animal prints feature throughout. Bewitching backdrops of midnight greys, icy blues and deep blood reds, evoke a gloomy colour wave, a nod to the Victorian classic, 'The Raven' . Gauze chiffons, sheer satins, oversized rayon knits and flowing silks work to accentuate the magnificently marauding theme. Lamé makes a well overdue return this season appearing on gathered leggings and ruched dresses adding an evocative element to the collections swatches.
As ever, Religion applies a sharp eye to detailing. Sharp brass pyramid studs burst across lapels and straps, lending hard-hitting edge to feminine pieces. Lightweight chains weave through jersey roping and pearls drape across décolletage, whilst sequin panelling appears on mesh and bamboo beading. Victorian elements appear in structured skirt gathering, whilst denim and jersey slashing further build on the labels long established rock aesthetic.
This season sees Religion introduce a 30 piece woven collection, ranging from poly-wool coats and woollen dresses, to tailored waistcoats and blazers. Longline waistcoats and jackets feature oversized collars and high necklines and work as a captivating counterpoint to some of the collections more rock inspired pieces.
Key items for autumn winter's darkly delicious collection include a gorgeous black woollen take on the boyfriend blazer, with elegant tails and satin tuxedo lapels. There is also a gorgeous red and black pinstripe bodycon dress which has an eye catching, draped, bustier detail. Finally the red leopard print ripped skinny jeans are a dead set to be donned by all discerning fashion mavens.
Georgina Bateman of Acappella, Religions Irish Distributor says 'Religion is the 'go-to' brand for style savvy women on the hunt for the latest trends. With the emergence of the 'Glunge trend', it's clear to see that women are looking for striking and toughened up glamour. The dark Victorian ruffling and hard stud and chain embellishments add to this. The perfect example of this is the brass studding on biker jackets. It immediately adds a hard-bitten, contemporary and very 'now' edge to an otherwise traditional piece. This reinterpretation of garments is seen throughout a collection, where everything is never as it seems.'
