Press Release

Louth is Ireland's 'sportiest county'

3 analyses Ireland's sportiest counties

It's official - Louth is the 'sportiest' county in Ireland downloading more sports clips, alerts and scores to their mobiles than any other county in Ireland. This result was found as 3, Ireland's mobile media network, revealed its fourth instalment from 'Ireland's Talking Habits' - an extensive study by '3' of its customers' phone usage, habits and trends.

Louth locals use their mobiles, more than any other county, to view and download 3's mobile GAA news; Rugby news and Heineken Cup reports; Premiership coverage, alerts and goals; Sky Sports and Premierscores. Golf and tennis fans also tune in to their 3 mobile for the latest on what's happening on and off the court.

Coming in a close second on the football fanatic front is sport-mad Waterford with 90% as many mobile sporting engagements. The Dubs also had their eyes firmly on the goal with just over 20% less hits on sport, winning them a bronze. Lacking in legwork was way-out-west Galwegians, with only 4% as many committed to keeping up with the athletes. Joint runners-up to paddy last Galway was northern neighbours Monaghan and Cavan with a poor performance of 11%, barely breaking a sweat.

Rachel Channing, Head of PR and Communications, 3 said "Sport is an institution in Ireland and a huge part of county identity and pride. It was fascinating that the otherwise quiet county of Louth was the Gold Medal winner in terms of sports activity on Planet3. Although Kilkenny just won the All Ireland hurling championship, they came 11th in the mobile sports front. The results come from 3's broad spectrum of sporting offers, from golf to rugby to formula one."
