Wrangler revisits the 70's
Winter 08 Collection
Women
For the new Winter 08 collection, Wrangler delves deeper into the archives to revive more of its cult heritage denim designs. This season sees the return of 70's high waists, boot-cuts and flares; the flare becomes the focal point of the collection for both men and women, reminiscent of one of Wranglers nostalgic heydays. Slim fits still feature within the collection but play a much quieter role than in previous seasons.
The women's denim range includes key 70's inspired features such as front pockets, off set belt loops and burnished rivets. Denim and fine cord also appear in vibrant plum and rust colours. The Joni jean plays a key role in the denim collection with her flattering high waist and flared leg next to the ever popular slim fitting Lia and worker pant Natalia that are present once more.
Tops feature vintage prints and styles such as the hip rainbow design and geometric and floral prints. Fabrics appear in cotton and linen combinations, wool, lux cashmere and silks. A feminine twist has been bestowed upon the traditional western style shirt in varying prints. Cropped denim jackets from the 50's have been re-created from original archive pieces. Colour palettes feature mellow ocres, cozy browns, wintery ever greens, rich plum tones and berry reds. Indigo yarns are also used, offering a unique effect to the garments.
Men
Wrangler have re-introduced 70's style high waists and flares and have also revived the classic 'Wrancher', a casual pant finished in a flat fabric reminiscent of a classic American Chino, and Corduroys in muted natural tones. The main collection consists of three key denim styles such as the super strong relaxed 'Wesley' and classics such as Roxboro and Clyde, which are an extension on the previous range. Attention to detail is obvious with features such as traditional double folded pocket detailing, and coloured panelling, all based on Wrangler's seven heritage icons, such as the 'W' stitch, the seven belt loops and copper rivets etc. Vintage washes and rinses are prominent, as is dry denim and pressed pleating, all using traditional methods.
Men's tops are chunky using thicker and more durable two yarns knits. This collection is sustainable and conscious and will last for seasons to come, gone is throw away fashion. Check shirts feature more heavily than ever and original colour ways are revived. Western features still play a large part in this collection such as the 50's batwing design detail as seen on the shirts and jackets worn by Steve McQueen. Detailing is strong throughout the range of tops and includes embossing on buttons, stitching techniques and embroidered icons. Again 50's denim jackets are re-issued next to more work wear inspired jackets which have been created in heavy, durable and functional fabrics.
Organic still appear in both the male and female collections. All the fabrics in this range come from 100% certified organic cotton using no chemical or synthetic finishing techniques and all prints are created using water-based dyes. Carefully designed labels have been created to differentiate this collection from the rest of the range. www.eu.wrangler.com
